Shaved Ice – Feb. 25

Big weekend for the #RedWings.

Well we spent the majority of our weekend at Joe Louis Arena, and it proved to be worthwhile visits on Saturday and Sunday. The Red Wings ended a five-game losing streak by beginning what might be a new winning streak.

On Saturday, Jimmy Howard and the Wings shut out the Predators, recording a 4-0 win over their division rivals.

Then on Sunday, the Wings made sure Roberto Luongo would get a sunburn from the red light behind him, scoring eight times (10, really) for a big win over Vancouver.

The two wins have pulled the Red Wings up to the No. 5 spot in the Western Conference, just one point behind St. Louis for second in the Central Division. The Blackhawks, who still haven’t lost in regulation, have taken control of the Central Division with 33 points, 12 more than Detroit.

In other news…

Chad Billins recorded the first hat trick of his hockey career yesterday, making him our Michi-gamer of the weekend. His three tallies powered the Griffins to a 7-3 win.

In the college hockey world, we saw…

  • The Wolverines sweep the Buckeyes in Columbus.
  • Northern Michigan split with Bowling Green.
  • Miami sweep Lake Superior.
  • Western Michigan and Notre Dame tie both nights (Broncos won shootout Friday, Notre Dame on Saturday).
  • Michigan State split with Alaska.

Let’s watch those eight goals again, shall we?

Just when they thought they might have their talented duo healthy for an extended period of time, the Penguins are now without Evgeni Malkin – the Russian star has a concussion.

Chicago is now 15-0-3 on the season after Corey Crawford shut out the Columbus Blue Jackets Sunday night. They have to lose a game eventually, right?

Zdeno Chara thought he was Tyler Seguin yesterday…

More auctions going on for the late Bob Perani’s collection. This time, there’s hockey equipment. Click the link to see more.

See you all tomorrow.
