By Stefan Kubus –

With the Warrior Hockey Day in Michigan quickly approaching on February 16, the Rochester Onyx Ice Arena and the Warren-based hockey company will be hosting multiple activities beginning at 1 p.m.

The Mite/Squirt divisions will kick things off with a skills competition, as three skaters and a goalie will compete in the Fastest Skater, Stick-handling Obstacle and Shootout Challenge events.

Following the competition, the adults or coaches from the same divisions will take to the ice for a one-hour scrimmage.

At 3 p.m., the same skills competition will happen for the Pee-Wee/Bantam players, as will a scrimmage game for the coaches afterward.

A total of 36 forwards and 12 goals will participate for the Mite/Squirt games and 30 forwards and 10 goals will participate for the Pee-Wee/Bantam games.

Out of the two age groupings, four winners will come out of each of the three skills competition events.

In addition to these events, the FUNdamental Mini-Mites and Mighty-Mites will participate in a coloring contest where the players will color in a hockey player an complete the sentence, “What I love about hockey most is…” We can only imagine the creatively fun responses that will come from this.

Expect the unexpected on Hockey Day in Michigan as there is fun and games for all the kids at the Rochester Onyx Ice Arena. Be sure to check it out!
