Shaved Ice – December 12

Afternoon edition of Shaved Ice, because I’ve been out celebrating 12-12-12.

It’s been a rather busy Wednesday for us at the MiHockey offices. Here’s what has been going on:

  • We just posted a story about how USA Hockey has decided to uphold a lifetime ban given out by MAHA to one of its former members. Read more about that one right here.
  • The Red Wings announced today that they are hosting four high school hockey games at The Joe next week. We’ve got the four match-ups, and information on how you can help one of the schools receive Red Wings-like coverage during their game.
  • Our friend Tim Hooker from Pure As Pond Ice went to the NHLPA charity game in Windsor over the weekend, and wrote a guest column for us on the event.
  • T.J. Hensick is our Michi-gamer of the day after a couple of goals last night in AHL action.

And for stories outside of MiHockey:

  • Niklas Kronwall tells the Free Press that the NHLPA is negotiating for the next generation during the CBA battles.
  • Here’s a photo gallery of the Wings’ staff ringing bells for the Salvation Army yesterday.
  • Dan Cleary says that Jan. 15 is ‘the point of no return’ for the 2012-13 season.
  • The Spartans will hold their annual Teddy Bear Toss during Saturday’s game against Ferris State, and the Wolverines will hold theirs on Saturday, as well.
  • The Muskegon Lumberjacks are adding Villiam Haag, a native of Sweden, to their roster.

Check out the latest edition of CCHA Now, filmed at Notre Dame last weekend.

Arthur Griffiths, former owner of the Canucks, has blasted the league for not doing their part in trying to grow the game. Considering he’s a former owner of a Canadian club, that should certainly hold some significance.

Hockey Canada has announced that Paul Henderson, Dave King and Mark Messier will the 2013 class of Distinguished Honourees of the Order of Hockey in Canada.

Oilers officials are once again speaking with the city of Edmonton about how to get a new arena deal worked out.

15-year-old Connor McDavid has reportedly signed an endorsement contract with Reebok/CCM. If that doesn’t solidify his place in “who’s the next Sidney Crosby?” chats, I don’t know what will.

Trick shots from Mikael Granlund to end today’s Shaved Ice seems like a good idea.

See everybody tomorrow.
