Shaved Ice – Dec. 26

Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season.

Team USA begins their quest for gold at the World Juniors in Russia tomorrow. Get ready for their debut against Germany (9 a.m. on the NHL Network) with our list of players to watch that have a connection to the Mitten.

We were at Compuware last Friday to see the Red Wings’ alumni take part in a charity game to raise money for a fallen police officer. Click here to see our article on the game, along with a photo gallery that has more than 70 images.

We released our list of the 50 most influential people in Michigan’s hockey scene on Friday. Click here to see who we named to the list this year.

Check out our article on how the construction of a high school hockey program at Grand Rapids Public is going – this is a great read for all hockey people. Great effort by coach Brian Bellgraph to try to construct something of this magnitude in the inner city.

This video from Nike Hockey…absolutely awesome.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins – you know, the superstar who should be playing in the NHL right now – had five points to lead Canada to a WJC-opening 9-3 win over Germany. It’s really just not fair to have him go up against teams that aren’t the perennial powerhouses; though RNH will probably have his way with those teams, too.

Nail Yakupov just poured some gasoline on the fire between Russia and Canada at the international tournament – the No. 1 overall pick from last summer said he needs to keep a cool head because the Canadians “play dirty”. How can you not love the World Juniors?

Ten crazy ideas from Pierre LeBrun on how to repair the league after the lockout concludes. They’re not so crazy, really – I’m especially a fan of No. 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7 on his list.

Check out the latest prospect report from Red Wings TV – starring Gustav Nyquist.

See you all tomorrow.
