Wolverines officially announce seven signings for 2013-14

The Michigan Wolverines officially announced their additions to next year’s roster today, with four Michigan natives on the list.

Red Berenson will have seven new players starting in 2013-14. They are as follows (Michigan natives in bold):

Forwards

  • Evan Allen (Sterling Heights)
  • Bryson Cianfrone (Stoney Creek, Ontario)
  • J.T. Compher (Northbrook, Ill.)
  • Alex Kile (Troy)
  • Tyler Motte (St. Clair)

Defensemen

  • Nolan De Jong (Victoria, British Columbia)
  • Michael Downing (Canton)

“We’re looking forward to the unique assets that each of these players will bring to our program” Berenson said in a press release. “All seven of these student-athletes are high-skill and high-character players, and will give us a well-rounded freshman class next season.

 Evan Allen: Currently playing with the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP) Under-18 team … Ranked No. 19 among USHL players in NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Rankings for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft … Played in the CCM All-American Prospects Game, scoring two goals … Has recorded 15 points (10g, 5a) in 18 regular season games … Scored two goals for the U.S. at the Four Nations Under-18 Tournament … Tallied 36 points (17g, 19a) in 52 games with the USNTDP Under-17 team in 2011-12 … Skated with the Honeybaked program prior to joining the USNTDP.

Bryson Cianfrone: Current playing with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League (USHL) … Has three points (1g, 2a) in seven games this season … Scored his first goal in his USHL debut on 9/29 … Tallied seven points (1g, 6a) in 14 games with the Oakville Blades and 21 points (9g, 12a) in 29 games with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) in 2011-12 … Recorded 96 points (45g, 51a) in 69 games with the Toronto Marlboros minor midget team prior to joining the OJHL.

J.T. Compher: Currently playing with the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP) Under-18 team … Ranked No. 1 among USHL players in NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Rankings for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft … Played in the CCM All-American Prospects Game … Has three points (2g, 1a) in 16 games this season … Earned a season-high two points (1g, 1a) on 9/21 vs. Sioux City … Earned 42 points (15g, 27a) in 40 games with the Under-17 team and 13 points (8g, 5a) in 18 games with the Under-18 team in 2011-12 … Skated with the Team Illinois Midget Minor program prior to joining the USNTDP.

Alex Kile: Current playing for the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) … Ranks third on the team with 13 points (8g, 5a) in 16 games … Ranks second on the team in goals … Earned a season-high four points (1g, 3a) on 10/13 at Cedar Rapids and scored a season-best two goals on 11/23 at Muskegon … Tallied 34 points (17g, 17a) in 58 games with the Gamblers in 2011-12 … Played for the Honeybaked program prior to moving on to the USHL.

Tyler Motte: Currently playing with the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP) Under-18 team … Ranked No. 12 among USHL players in NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Rankings for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft  … Played in the CCM All-American Prospects Game … Has 16 points (8g, 8a) in 22 games … Tallied a season-high three points (3a) on 11/25 vs. St. Mary’s University … Scored two goals on 10/27 at St. Thomas University … Posted 41 points (25g, 19a) with the Under-17 team and one goal with the Under-18 team in 2011-12 … Skated for Honeybaked prior to joining the USNTDP … Helped St. Clair High School to a state baseball championship.

Nolan De Jong: Currently playing with the Victoria Grizzles of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) … One of two players to receive a “B Skater” rating from the BCHL in the NHL Central Scouting Preliminary North American Ones to Watch list, the highest rating of the six BCHL players on the list … Has 12 points (2g, 10a) in 20 games … Played for Team Canada West in the 2012 World Junior A Challenge … Recorded 17 points (2g, 15a) in 56 games with the Grizzles in 2011-12.

Michael Downing: Currently playing with the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League … Ranked No. 6 among USHL players in NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Rankings for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft … Played in the CCM All-American Prospects Game … Has four assists and a plus-6 rating in 14 games this season … Played for Team USA at the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament … Earned 14 points (4g, 10a) in 54 games with the Fighting Saints in 2011-12 … Played for Detroit Catholic Central prior to joining the USHL.
