Shaved Ice – November 28

Welcome to a Wednesday edition of Shaved Ice.

Forbes released their projected values for all 30 NHL teams today, with the Red Wings checking in at $346 million. That puts them at No. 6 in the league – the five above DRW are the other Original 6 squads. For the record, the Leafs hold the top spot; their projected value is $1 billion. That’s a lot of money for a team that doesn’t win a lot of games.

Wonder if I can scrounge up the $346 mil and buy the Wings. That would be cool.

USA Hockey announced today that they will release their preliminary roster for the World Juniors on Tuesday. Here is our article about the Michigan connections that survived the initial cuts over the summer – players not mentioned in the article could still crack the line-up, of course.

Today’s Michi-gamer nod goes to Damien Brunner. Yes, we know that he is not a Michigan native. Nor has he played much in the Mitten. But he should be playing here currently, so we bent the rules to highlight his play of late.

Michigan announced the signings of seven new players for 2013-14 yesterday – see who they picked up right here.

Meanwhile, the Spartans are preparing for the Buckeyes this weekend after a break on Thanksgiving.

Our friend Monica McAlister is forming a team to run in the Detroit Marathon (across the bridge into Canada, too) to raise money for the American Special Hockey Association. Check this out to see how you can help her team and raise money to help special hockey.

The city of Glendale has passed a lease deal for the Coyotes to stay in Arizona, hinging on the team being officially sold to Greg Jamison and him keeping them in Phoenix. Sounds like the team in the desert is staying in the desert.

Brad Richards is the new spokesman for a company that makes shirts you can wear untucked and still look good. I think it sounds terrific, actually.

The latest on the CBA talks can be found right here – apparently they’re talking today.

See you all tomorrow.
