Shaved Ice – November 2

Sad day for hockey in Michigan…

We decided to wait to post Shaved Ice today until we had a final confirmation about the Winter Classic cancellation news. You’re getting it now, however, because I needed to calm myself down a bit. The fan in me is a very, very disappointed person right now.

Here is the latest directly from the Red Wings on what happens now, both for the tickets people tried to buy, and where the games originally scheduled for Comerica Park will now be played. The Great Lakes Invitational has been moved back to Joe Louis Arena, by the way.

As we tweeted earlier, we feel terrible for the kids who thought they were going to get to skate outdoors at Comerica Park this year. Those kids are the ones who get forgotten about during this battle between the owners and the players, both by taking away their favorite players on TV, and now taking away memories for them too.

In happier news, Riley Barber picked up another award for an outstanding October by the Livonia native.

Former “Mr. Hockey” Ben Johnson is our Michi-gamer of the day after a strong performance for the Windsor Spitfires last night.

Here’s an incredible shootout goal by the NTDP’s Kevin Leblanc from last night, helping the Ann-Arbor based national team pick up a USHL win.

Bill Daly told TSN that he expects collective bargaining talks to “resume in the very near future“. Very near future isn’t fast enough for me.

It’s been a confusing fall for Shane Doan, who’s been trying to figure out the ownership situation for his Phoenix Coyotes team, and then that whole lockout thing in general, too.

Interesting piece from Pierre LeBrun about how Sean O’Donnell is trying to help the NHLPA, while potentially forcing himself into retirement.

Check out our article about the fundraising efforts of the U16 Lansing Spartans and U16 Livonia Knights. Great stuff from these two girls teams.

Enjoy the weekend. We’ll be covering all the college hockey action for ya throughout.
