Shaved Ice – November 12

Quite a weekend of college hockey, especially if you were following green or blue…

The Spartans and the Wolverines renewed their in-state rivalry this weekend, and the two games certainly didn’t disappoint. On Friday, the Wolverines took care of business at Yost, knocking off the visiting Spartans 5-1. Then, on Saturday, the Spartans found revenge, beating the Wolverines 7-2 at Munn. It was a wild, wild weekend for the rivalry, and we sure were glad we could be a part of it.

Michigan and Michigan State weren’t the only two college teams playing this weekend, however. Check out our Friday and Saturday recaps to see how all the Mitten-based D-1 schools fared.

Congrats go out to the NTDP U17 AND U18 teams, after both won international tournaments this weekend. The U17s won the Under-17 Four Nations Tournament in Switzerland, while the U18s won the Under-18 Four Nations Tournament right here in Ann Arbor.

Meanwhile, the U.S. also won the women’s Four Nations tournament, AND the U.S. won gold at the World Junior A Challenge in Canada, as well. How’s that for a Veterans Day weekend celebration…

Tonight starts Team OHL’s play in the Subway Super Series. Plymouth’s Tom Wilson and Garrett Meurs will represent the OHL, as will Saginaw goaltender and Red Wings draftee Jake Paterson.

For those of you who wish to relive Friday night, here you go…

And for those of you who prefer Saturday’s game, here you go…

Pavel Bure, Joe Sakic, Mats Sundin, and former Red Wing Adam Oates are in the midst of their Hockey Hall of Fame entrances…here’s the four legendary hockey players answering questions during the fan forum, which, in my opinion, is an awesome event during the weekend celebration.

The Associated Press reports that talks have come to a screeching halt between the owners and players, which is, you know…terrible news.

TSN’s Bob McKenzie weighs in on the negotiations, and the lack of a new CBA, right here. He’s one of the most respected reporters in the game.

ESPN’s Scott Burnside says you can’t rain on the Hall of Fame parade with lockout details. Going to have to politely disagree with you there, Scott.

We were all over Yost and Munn this weekend, tweeting about the rivalry games. You can see the compilation of said social-media postings for Friday and Saturday by clicking on those two links right there. There’s some photos mixed in, too.

See you all tomorrow.
