Shaved Ice – October 5

Today being Friday just means that we’re that much closer to another hockey-filled weekend.

The Griffins’ season is almost here. That means a new set of challenges for young goaltender Petr Mrazek, who says he’s ready for whatever Hockeytown West can throw at him.

For the first time in a long time, the Wolverines are without proven leaders Luke Glendening, Shawn Hunwick, Greg Pateryn and David Wohlberg. How will the new leadership group take form? All three new captains lead in different ways, says coach Red Berenson. Click this link to read our article about the changing dynamics for the Wolverines.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Henrik Zetterberg won’t be heading overseas, at least for now. That’s the same thing he told us a few weeks ago when we chatted with him after a Warrior Hockey photoshoot.

Bill Roose of DetroitRedWings.com caught up with Glendening during the Griffins’ training camp – check out the article right here.

Hockey insider Pierre LeBrun says that the NHL and NHLPA met today, and there are plans for comprehensive meetings this weekend. Perhaps they’re finally listening to the idea held by pretty much everybody of locking themselves in a room and not coming out until this is settled.

The NHLPA shares their collective thoughts on the cancellations that the league announced yesterday.

Great article by Craig Custance on super prospect Seth Jones, who could be the first overall pick next June.

We’ll be at Yost on Sunday for the big Grand Rapids Griffins game. See you then (or earlier).
