Shaved Ice – October 29

Well the Tigers are done. The good news? Hockey season is in full swing, ready to pull you out of your baseball-induced funk.

As we reported late Friday night, the Hockeytown Winter Festival will be taken away from Michigan if the Winter Classic is. I don’t phrase it as ‘canceled’ because that’s not what it is. It’s more than that.

And if the above happens, the Great Lakes Invitational will be moved back to Joe Louis Arena, and played on Dec. 29-30.

We have to wait and see what happens – the NHL has closed up shop for the day because of the impending Hurricane Sandy blast on the East Coast. On that note, I hope everybody out there stays safe. Take cover. We’re hoping for the best for all of you.

ESPN is reporting that the announcement will be made on Thursday, by the way.

On a lighter note, here’s our recaps from another weekend of CCHA hockey. Click here for Friday’s games, and click here for Saturday’s games (and by the way, Michigan Tech dropped both their games to Denver).

Congrats to Fenton native and Lumberjacks defenseman Carter Foguth, who committed to a D-1 school today. Click here to see where he’s going.

Former Wolverines defenseman Jack Johnson posted a blog on his official site today voicing his frustration over the lockout, starting it off with “I want to work!

Chris Chelios held an autograph signing to help the Red Wings fight breast cancer last week. Check out the video from Red Wings TV.

Bill Daly told ESPN that there’s “nothing new to report“, which is just great news for all us hockey fans out there.

Members of the Blackhawks held a high-scoring affair on Saturday that drew 12,000 hockey-hungry fans.

TSN is reporting that the KHL games that were going to be played in New York have been moved back to Russia, with the KHL citing the lockout and “impassioned pleas by the fan bases of each club to keep these premier, late-season games in Russia.”

The Grand Rapids Griffins do a great job of taking you inside their games. Check out these highlights from ice level. They are awesome.

See everybody tomorrow for another edition of Shaved Ice.
