Shaved Ice – October 26

Friday is here. Even better, the start of the CCHA regular season is here.

Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night In Canada just tweeted that the NHL is informing clubs that all games up until Nov. 30 have been cancelled. No word, however, on that big game at the Big House everybody around here is hoping will still happen. Things need to get figured out quickly, because a Winter Classic of that size and importance isn’t an easy thing to plan for.

Ryan Miller weighed in on the lockout situation with an email to ESPN The Magazine.

Grand Ledge native Reid Boucher is our Michi-gamer of the night, after picking up two helpers for the Sarnia Sting in their win over Windsor.

The CCHA regular season kicks off tonight. We’ll be at Yost, and watching the rest of the action via Twitter and scoreboard streams. While you wait for puck drop, check out these facts about how many Michigan natives are playing in the league this season. To sum it up, we do a great job in developing college talent. Do I sound a little stuck up? Oh well, I’m right.

The CCHA games for this weekend are as follows:

  • Alaska at Ferris State
  • Ohio State at Bowling Green
  • Miami at Michigan
  • Michigan State at Lake Superior
  • Notre Dame at Northern Michigan

The Muskegon Lumberjacks announced yesterday that they have signed Compuware midget minor defenseman Chaz Switzer to a USHL tender.

Since the CCHA is starting back up tonight, let’s take a look at the last league game played. Spoiler alert – Western Michigan wins.

TSN reports that an official announcement of cancelled games is expected to be delivered today.

The consensus out of a conference call between many NHLPA members is that the league is not truly making any offers, and that it “feels like shakedown” to the players.

SI’s Stu Hackel writes how there’s a brighter future for the Blue Jackets, now that they have John Davidson calling the shots in Columbus. Should the Red Wings be concerned?

Here’s an interesting read from Jess Meyers, a writer for ESPN in Minnesota, on the impact that the Ann Arbor-based National Team Development Program has had on hockey over the years. We take great pride in having the top U.S. talent come to our state every year, and hope it continues for a long time to come.

And since he’s coming to Yost tonight, we thought it would be fun to share Austin Czarnik’s shootout goal again.

College hockey coverage coming at you tonight, I can promise you that.
