We decided it was time to finish the Shaved Ice face-lift. Hope you like the new graphics.

We went with the first ‘adopted’ player nomination for Michi-gamer today. Former NTDP and Plymouth Whalers forward J.T. Miller scored his first professional goal yesterday – think that merits a Michi-gamer nod, don’t you?

Hockey fans in Cheboygan, don’t forget that you can meet the Spartans tomorrow as they drive to take on Lake Superior.

Niklas Kronwall told the Free Press that he still thinks a deal can be worked out by the NHL and the NHLPA. The league said today was the last day to reach a deal before they give up on trying to squeeze in a 82-game schedule.

TSN’s ‘Deadline Day’ article says there’s not even a meeting scheduled for today. For publicity’s sake – for both sides – they should at least sit in a room together and stare at a countdown clock or something.

Reports suggest that if the new CBA (whenever it is finalized) cuts salaries, Ilya Kovalchuk might stay overseas. It would not bode well for the league if they started losing starpower after a lockout.

Here’s coverage from the Islanders’ official site about their move to Brooklyn. Ironically, you can already reserve seats. Because that’s what people want to do during a lockout. Reserve seats.

Even President Obama is weighing in on the frustrations of the NHL lockout. Our Commander-In-Chief has asked both sides to get it done. Can’t argue with that, no matter which guy you’re voting for in Nov.

 

Speaking of international relations (OK, poor transition sentence, but I’m trying), check out this video about youth players from the States going over to Russia. Anybody know if Michigan kids were involved? This video was the first we heard about said event.
