Lumberjacks sign Compuware defenseman Chaz Switzer

By Michael Caples –

The Muskegon Lumberjacks announced today that they have signed Chaz Switzer, currently a defenseman with Compuware’s midget minor club, to a three-year contract tender.

Switzer, a Muskegon native, will be eligble to play for the Lumberjacks starting in the 2013-14. By using a tender, the Lumberjacks forfeit a first-round pick in the 2013 USHL Futures Draft.

“We are very excited to have Chaz Switzer be a part of the Muskegon Lumberjacks family, and it is a terrific opportunity for him to play in his hometown,” said Lumberjacks CEO and GM Josh Mervis in a statement.  “Chaz is a quality young man that has the work ethic to prosper in the USHL.  He has a great opportunity to compete at the highest level here for the next three years.  In his third year, we see Chaz being one of our captains.”

The Switzer family are no strangers to hockey fans on Michigan’s west coast; Chaz is the son of former Muskegon Mohawks forward/defenseman Erle Switzer, who played with the Mohawks from 1978 to 1984.
