CCHA Players of the Week – Oct. 29; LSSU defenseman honored

Lake Superior State’s Zach Sternberg was named defenseman of the week by the Central Collegiate Hockey Association this afternoon after an impressive weekend against Michigan State.

Postgame Offensive Player of the Week
Cody Kunyk, UA
Jr., F (Sherwood Park, AB)
Kunyk had two assists in a 6-3 loss at Ferris State on Friday and added a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win over the Bulldogs on Saturday. He finished the weekend +2 with 10 shots on goal.

Gladiator Defenseman of the Week
Zach Sternberg, LSSU
Jr. (Toronto, ON)
Sternberg had two assists and was the Perani Cup second star in a 3-2 win over Michigan State on Friday and added an assist in a 4-2 loss to the Spartans on Saturday. He finished the weekend +2, with four blocks and three shots on goal.

Goaltender of the Week
Brady Hjelle, OSU
Sr. (International Falls, MN)
Hjelle stopped 25 shots and was the Perani Cup first star in a 1-0 shutout win over Bowling Green on Friday.

Gongshow Rookie of the Week
Tommy Burke, BGSU
G (Chaska, MN)
Burke stopped a career-high 27 shots and was the Perani Cup second star in a 1-0 loss to Ohio State on Friday and made 21 saves, and stopped all four shots in the shootout, in a 3-3 tie/shootout win against the Buckeyes on Saturday.
