Shaved Ice – August 24

MiHockey editor Michael Caples here on a wonderful Friday afternoon.

Quick hits

I’m in East Lansing right now to take care of a few things, so I figured why not stop by Munn Ice Arena to catch the conclusion of the MSU pro camp? That means more photos will be added to our gallery as soon as I get back to the office, along with features on Torey Krug and Jeff Petry. The latter seems pretty excited for another season in Edmonton; with those forwards on the roster, who could blame him.

Here’s a photo of the Spartans singing the fight song at the end of their scrimmage. Hockey sticks banging on the ice added a distinct beat to the song – perhaps the pep band should consider including them come October.

Highlight reel

Figured we should even it up a bit, and put something Wolverines-related in the ‘Highlight reel’ portion of this post. What better than watching Jacob Trouba being selected in the NHL Draft? Can’t wait to see what he can do at Yost.

Outside the Mitten

And for your daily NHL lockout update…it still doesn’t look good for hockey fans hoping to be in NHL rinks in October.

Top pick Nail Yakupov (gotta be one of the best names hockey has ever seen) is fighting an infection in his leg, a result from a treadmill accident during a training session. Don’t hear that one every day.

Check it out

Have you told us what your favorite hockey jersey from the Mitten is yet? Click on the graphic below to go to our Facebook page…you could win a Warrior Hockey prize pack for participating.
