Quick hits

We’ll be heading down to Comerica Park for the press conference regarding the Hockeytown Winter Festival and NHL Winter Classic Alumni Showdown, so stay tuned for news on that front.

Here’s our recap from the Red Wings’ development camp scrimmage last night.

If you hadn’t seen, here’s a great feature on former Red Wings assistant coach and newly-appointed Grand Rapids Griffins head coach Jeff Blashill.

Highlight reel

Rochester Hills native and Los Angeles Kings defenseman Alec Martinez joins Kings captain Dustin Brown for a “You Can Play” promo video.

Outside the Mitten

Both the St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning were busy yesterday, as the Blues re-signed veteran Jamie Langenbrunner to a one-year deal, and the Bolts extended Teddy Purcell for three years.

In addition, the Blues and Lightning also made a trade, as St. Louis dealt tough guy B.J. Crombeen and a fifth-round pick in 2014 to Tampa Bay in exchange for two fourth-round picks (2013 and 2014).

The New York Rangers have also signed veteran journeyman Jeff Halpern to a one-year deal.
