Quick hits

With the red carpet rolled out and ready to go for tonight, there’s three Michigan connections to keep an eye on at the NHL Awards Show (7 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network):

  1. Paul MacLean – former Detroit Red Wings assistant coach and now with Ottawa – is up for the Jack Adams Award (coach of the year).
  2. Max Pacioretty – former University of Michigan Wolverine – is up for the Bill Masterton Trophy (perseverance and dedication to the game).
  3. Detroit’s own Pavel Datsyuk is up for the Selke Trophy (best defensive forward)

In case you missed it, the Red Wings inked Darren Helm to a four-year extension worth $8.5 million. Helm, 25, was set to become a restricted free agent on July 1st.
