As the top teams in Michigan state their claim as MAHA state champions, we’re here to bring you all the coverage. See below for links to different championship game recaps from various age groups, and a photo collage featuring every state champion team. Every team pictured below will be honored at our banquet, MiHockey’s 20th annual Banquet of Champions, on Monday, April 9 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.

Andie Anastos scored two power-play goals and Marah Shields stopped 37 shots to lead Honeybaked to the MAHA 19U Girls AAA Tier I state championship on Sunday with a 3-1 win over Little Caesars at Taylor Sportsplex. More…

Little Caesars pulls off OT win for Girls 14U state title

Little Caesars co-captain Hannah Potrykus came so close to being the hero at the end of regulation of Sunday’s MAHA 14U Girls AAA Tier 1 state championship game. Potrykus skated the puck out of her zone to center ice, took a look up at the clock, saw four seconds left and drove a slap shot that hit Honeybaked goaltender Shannon Ropp high and almost dropped behind her and into the net. Honeybaked tops Victory Honda 4-2 for Girls 12U state title

Brooke Schembri scored twice in the span of 130 seconds in the first period to lead Honeybaked to a 4-2 win over Victory Honda to capture the MAHA 12U Girls AAA Tier I state championship at Taylor Sportsplex. Schembri’s two goals earned her MVP honors. More…

In rematch, Belle Tire tops Little Caesars for Squirt AAA title

Belle Tire suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Little Caesars North Saturday afternoon in squirt major play, but the team was determined to triumph in the rematch for the MAHA State Championship. And triumph they did. More…

Defense, goaltending power Compuware to Pee Wee Minor state title

As cliché as it is, the Compuware Pee Wee Minor squad proved that defense still wins championships. And that may even be an understatement. Compuware defeated Honeybaked 4-1 to win the MAHA State Championship Sunday afternoon, largely in part to stellar goaltending and an undying will to block shots. More…

Honeybaked ’98s cap perfect playoff run with 6-2 win

Nick Pastujov ended his Bantam Minor season with a bang on the biggest possible stage – the state championship game. The Honeybaked captain scored a hat trick en route to an MVP award and a 6-2 victory over Little Caesars, earning a state championship for his ’98 Honeybaked squad. The team went undefeated in round robin play, as well, before capping things off in the finals. More…

41 Lumber wins Pee Wee B state title

The state title madness continues and more victors will be crowned throughout the month of March. 41 Lumber from the Dickson Amateur Hockey Association in the Upper Peninsula defeated the Bay Country Blizzard 6-4 for the Pee Wee B state title in Fraser on March 4. A hat trick from Peter Ropiak and a pair from Brandon Spindlow led the team to victory. More…

Westland Warriors win Midget B state championship

Hockey is a game that can draw emotion out of anybody.  The match-up between Westland and Fraser brought out the best in the players, coaches and parents involved. The Westland Warriors defeated the Fraser Titans 3-2 to claim the Midget B state championship. The Warriors’ Jordan Marek and Ryan Wheeler netted goals in the championship contest, after each contributing hat tricks during round-robin play.  Chad Ford notched the game-winner and goaltender Justin Kolbicz made 26 saves to lead Westland to victory. Oakland Junior Grizzlies win Pee Wee AA title

If at first you don’t succeed, lace up the skates and try again. The Oakland Junior Grizzlies won the Pee Wee AA state title on March 4, defeating Marquette 6-4. A group of five Grizzlies players were teammates last season for another club who lost in the state finals to Grand Rapids, but made up for it this season. More…

Port Huron takes home Midget AA title

Winning a championship requires a full team effort.  The Port Huron Flags understand this concept, which is why goals came from role players other than the typical scorers. The Port Huron Flags took home the Midget AA state title on March 4, defeating Mt. Clemens 6-1.  Jason Pringle and Eric Payne, who are important players on the team but not the traditional goal-scorers, each contributed two goals in what turned out to be a surprisingly lopsided scoresheet.  Port Huron led by a five-goal margin after two periods of play, and never looked back. Iron River earns Squirt B title

When talking about youth state titles in the state of Michigan, the Upper Peninsula is an area that provides plenty of champions.  While folks in the lower part of the Mitten may not have access to these match-ups, they are definitely some to keep tabs on. Iron River defeated St. Ignace 3-2 for the Squirt B state championship on March 4 in Negaunee.  Led by outstanding goaltending from Evan Hedtke, who gave up only nine goals in all five tournament games, and full team effort from their co-ed players, Iron River walked away with their second Squirt championship in three years.
