Shaved Ice – March 9

Let’s start the day off with a little riddle.  Who has two feet, writer’s block, bags under the eyes and wants to take a nap?  The answer: a Michigan Hockey staffer bringing you endless coverage of all things hockey in the Mitten.  Good morning, everyone.  Staffer Brian Kalisher here to cap off your week.

Quick hits

Again, no Wings game recaps to report today.  However, Pavel Datsyuk has returned to practice, which is great news for the team.

The Red and White take on Los Angeles at home tonight.  The Kings are 4-5-1 in their last ten games and remain just a point out of playoff position in the West.  Trade deadline acquisition Jeff Carter has provided an offensive boost for the club.

Highlight reel

Former Red Wing, hall-of-famer, and current analyst Larry Murphy joined NHL Live to chat yesterday.

Outside the Mitten

It doesn’t relate to the Mitten, but come on – any Alex Ovechkin game-winner deserves a little recognition.

Tim Thomas must have seen Ryan Miller’s dominating run on our Michi-gamer page and decided it was his turn to take over.  The Davison native stopped 19 shots on the way to a 3-1 Boston victory, making him our Michi-gamer of the night.

Hockey players are a rare breed of athlete who tend to give back just as much as they receive.  Stephan “Scuba” Beauvais is a senior captain of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.  Check out what he’s doing during his final high school season to give back to those in need.  We need more people like Scuba in the world.
