Shaved Ice – March 8

Morning, all.  Today’s advice – eat blueberry pancakes before heading to the office.  Your morning will feel spectacular.  It’s necessary after a long night of printing a magazine. Staffer Brian Kalisher here to share some hockey news.

Quick hits

The biggest news around these parts is the weekend of state championship match-ups the Mitten has coming up.  A handful of titles have already been handed out (you can check our magazine and website for coverage on those) and there’s a whole slate of games to come the next couple weekends.

The Red Wings are off until Friday when they skate with the Los Angeles Kings at the Joe.

In other Wings news, forward Gustav Nyquist was recalled from Grand Rapids and should add a little offensive firepower to the line-up.

It’s always in season to give back to the community.  The Wings’ goaltenders, Jimmy Howard and Joey MacDonald signed autographs to raise money for charity.

Highlight reel

What’s Red Wings radio play-by-play man Ken Kal doing away from the booth these days?  He’s reading to fifth graders to celebrate National Reading Month.

Outside the Mitten

Sidney Crosby sat down with Pierre McGuire to talk comeback and more.

You can check out the second part of Crosby’s interview here.

MSU’s former star goaltender Ryan Miller is at it again in Buffalo.  The veteran stopped 22 shots in route to a 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.  He’s our Michi-gamer of the night…again.
