Shaved Ice – March 22

Good morning, hockey fans.  The end of the week is near, the sun is shining, and the big finale of the hockey season is inching closer. Brian Kalisher here with you once again to examine our hockey landscape.

Quick hits

The Red Wings suffered their sixth straight loss last night, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Rangers in OT.  Rangers’ captain Ryan Callahan posted the game-winner on his birthday.  The Red and White have now gone 2-6-2 in their last ten contests.  They try their luck again Saturday night against Carolina.

Craving some postseason college hockey action?  Well, it’s coming your way starting tomorrow.  The road to the Frozen Four features four teams from the Mitten – Michigan State, Michigan, Western Michigan and Ferris State have all earned spots in the NCAA tournament.

Outside the Mitten

Our old friend Ryan Miller had an outstanding night between the pipes, earning a career-high sixth shutout of the season last night in Buffalo’s 3-0 defeat of Montreal.  This makes him our Michi-gamer of the night.

One of the NHL’s most popular players, Shane Doan, received a three-game suspension yesterday for an elbow on Dallas’ Jamie Benn earlier this week.
