Shaved Ice – Feb. 6

Welcome back to the work week everybody. Hope you enjoyed the Super Bowl. Personally, I was disappointed that the hockey commercial filmed by Budweiser only aired in Canada. The halftime spot with Clint Eastwood was pretty solid though. More on this later.

Quick hits

The Wings took on the Oilers in the late-night Hockey Night in Canada spot on Saturday. Despite a late comeback bid by Detroit, the Oilers prevailed in the shootout – the first time the Wings have lost in the breakaway sessions all season. Two goals from Todd Bertuzzi helped the Wings erase a 3-1 deficit, but Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ goal in the sixth round of the shootout proved to be the difference. Ty Conklin got the start in goal for the Wings in replace of the injured Jimmy Howard, but after a three-goal first period, he was replaced by Joey MacDonald for the final 40 minutes and overtime.

Highlight reel

I’m showing this commercial for the second time in this blog, because I think it’s awesome, and we didn’t get to see it last night during the Super Bowl. I’m sure you won’t be upset with my decision after you watch it…again, and again, and again.

Outside the Mitten

Congrats to Ryan Miller, who moved into first place in the Buffalo Sabres franchise wins list. Needless to say, topping Dominik Hasek is cause for being named Michi-gamer of the weekend.
