Shaved Ice – Feb. 3

Hello, all.  Thankfully it’s Friday and we all made it through another week.  Staffer Brian Kalisher here to provide you with your hockey fix.

Quick hits

The Red Wings hit the road last night and beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 in a shootout. Cleary, Hudler and Miller all chipped in with goals during regulation before Datsyuk and Hudler topped it off with shootout tallies.  Detroit native and former Spartan David Booth came through with an assist for the Canucks.  The Wings currently lead the Western Conference and the entire NHL with 71 points.  They suit up again Saturday night against the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place.

Here’s a look at the Wings’ shootout win.

Outside the Mitten

Speaking of Edmonton, the Oilers’ Sam Gagner put together an eight-point night against the Chicago Blackhawks last night.  The London, Ontario native earned himself four goals, four assists and was +6 during his 17:28 of ice time.

The Super Bowl is only days away and we all know how amazing the commercials can be.  Budweiser released a commercial that is sure to resonate with Canadian viewers – and the hockey fan in all of us.  It’s also pretty hilarious.

Trade rumors are still brewing in the NHL as the February 27 trade deadline approaches.  TSN’s Scott Cullen breaks down some possibilities in the Western Conference.
