Shaved Ice – Jan. 17

Welcome back, everybody.

Quick hits

In the final stop of my weekend of hockey madness, I drove down to Joe Louis Arena last night to cover the latest chapter in the battle of the Miller brothers. Fortunately for the Red Wings (and unfortunately for Ryan Miller), it was a pretty one-sided affair. Detroit jumped all over the East Lansing native and former Michigan State goaltender, posting five goals in the first 24:32 of the contest. Ryan’s little brother Drew set up the Wings’ fifth goal, which would be the one that sent Ryan to the showers early, and the last Detroit would score in the contest. Their 5-0 win over Buffalo was the 15th straight at home, breaking a franchise mark previously set in 1965.

Highlight reel

Here’s all the highlights from the Wings’ victory.

Outside the Mitten

With the goal he scored north of the border yesterday, Petoskey native Jim Slater was named our Michi-gamer of the night.

Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green needs abdominal surgery and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

Minnesota-Duluth still leads the USA Today college hockey poll.
