Shaved Ice – Jan. 13

My apologies on the lack of a blog post yesterday. As Darren Eliot pointed out, the title should be changed to ‘Shamed Ice’. Sometimes, as you’re driving to the National Team Development Program to work on feature articles for an upcoming issue of the magazine, you realize that there aren’t enough hours in the day, and that something – read blog – slipped through the cracks.

Quick hits

Staff writer Matt Mackinder did an exceptional job covering the Red Wings game for us last night – here’s his recap. In case you missed it, or don’t want to click on the link for some reason, Henrik Zetterberg pulled the Peter Forsberg shootout move to win it for the Wings. You’ll probably be able to see that one down just a few lines in this blog, by the way.

Reports are being published all over the place that the next Winter Classic is coming to a Michigan Stadium near you. I’m not going to start jumping up and down until I hear it right from the NHL, but yes, then I will start jumping up and down – and lobbying for a Michigan/Michigan State game, or a Great Lakes Invitational showdown outside.

Highlight reel

For all your shootout needs, watch this one.

Outside the Mitten

David Legwand posted two goals last night, including the game-winner, en route to becoming our Michi-gamer of the night.

Mike Cammalleri was pulled out of the Canadiens games last night – because he was traded. The former Wolverine is off to Calgary in what was certainly a surprising move.

Check it out

My good friend George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Spartans have talked about another aircraft carrier game – this time on ice.

Next up

I shall be giving my car a work-out this weekend, and I hope you all enjoy it. Tonight, it’s up to Munn Ice Arena. Tomorrow, it’s the Joe, and then maybe back to Munn. Then Sunday, it’s off to Cleveland, for the Frozen Diamond Face-off. Keep an eye on MiHockeyNow and our Twitter page for all the coverage of a hockey-filled weekend.
