Shaved Ice – Jan. 10

Welcome back, hockey fans.

Quick hits

Jack Johnson must have known that today would be one of those slow news mornings that wouldn’t give me much to fill the blog with, because he the made sure to give me something to write about. The former Michigan Wolverine beat Tomas Vokoun five-hole last night – for what would be the game-winning goal – and as he skated back towards his bench along the boards, he “Tebowed”. Personally, I think it’s funny, and it’s nice to see some players have a little fun after they score goals, because hey – it draws attention. Johnson was our Michi-gamer of the night for his Tebow-esque performance.

Highlight reel

I think I may have posted this earlier in the month, but it’s worth revisiting. Have you seen Nick Lidstrom’s acting skills in this car commercial? Not bad.

Outside the Mitten

There’s no surprise on this one – the Blue Jackets fired coach Scott Arniel yesterday. He’s the seventh coach to be dismissed this season, yet with a 11-25-5 record that has them last in the Western Conference, it’s not hard to figure out why Columbus management made the change.

It seems that whatever bad blood developed between the Bruins and Canucks in last year’s Stanley Cup finals has carried over to this season. Saturday’s rematch featured 30 penalties between the two squads, and now, Brad Marchand has a five-game suspension for a hit on Sami Salo.
