Shaved Ice – Oct. 28

Quick hits

Last night I was in the press box at Yost Ice Arena. While I enjoyed the brats and the free hockey, I also decided to write about it, you know, for the whole job thing. Here’s the recap. The No. 4 Wolverines looked impressive in their home test against the No. 6 Bulldogs. It will be interesting to see how Ferris State tries to bounce back from the 5-2 loss (I’ll be following via Twitter, because tonight I’ll be taking in the Red Wings game at Joe Louis Arena).

Meanwhile, the LSSU Lakers continued their strong start, this time marching into Ohio and beating Miami in overtime.

Highlight reel

Here are the highlights from last night’s game in Ann Arbor.

Outside the Mitten

Lots of NHL games last night, but none more exciting (or confusing) than the Jets vs. Flyers game. Winnipeg ended up winning 9-8 – and yes, I’m talking about a hockey game. It was the highest scoring NHL contest in 15 years.

Other less dramatic scores:

  • Canadiens 2, Bruins 1
  • Sabres 4, Blue Jackets 2
  • Maple Leafs 4, Rangers 2
  • Penguins 3, Islanders 2
  • Senators 4, Panthers 3
  • Predators 5, Lightning 3
  • Ducks 3, Wild 2
  • Kings 5, Stars 3
  • Oilers 2, Capitals 1
  • Coyotes 5, Devils 3

Next up

I’ll be at the Red Wings game tonight. In case you missed it, you can win tickets to Tuesday’s game on both our Facebook and Twitter pages. I recommend participating.

Shaved Ice is the new daily blog for MiHockeyNow.com. Every morning, we will share a comprehensive summary of what’s happening in hockey around the Mitten – in the hopes of starting your day off right. Because let’s face it, what’s better than a little hockey in the morning?
